Responsibilities

  1. Identifies presenting problems, assesses accurately, and arranges safe disposition to appropriate level of care ie inpatient versus outpatient care.
  2. Conducts screening and/or assessment in keeping with clinical knowledge and skill level as necessary for efficient and safe disposition of patients.
  3. Documents assessment and established diagnosis and application for 5150 appropriately in medical record.
  4. Maintains current community resources and provides appropriate referrals to patients served.
  5. Clearly and correctly communicates patient admissions, transfers, and unusual occurrences to all necessary personnel including admitting psychiatrist.
  6. Collaboration with Charge Nurses, coordinates the admission of patients to Behavioral Health Services based on diagnosis and patient needs.
  7. Orients new employees to the Assessment policies and procedures, conveying accurate information in a supportive and courteous manner.
  8. Implements the department’s policies and procedures, ensuring the overall ongoing quality of the services provided.
  9. Assists in back-up training as needed.
  10. Functions as a Patient Advocate adhering to Patients’ Rights and LPS statutes.
  11. Interacts effectively with physicians and other clinical staff, supporting philosophy and implementation of programs.
  12. Works effectively with Business Office and Admissions staff, Emergency Services, all patient care units and ancillary departments demonstrating courtesy and cooperation in all interactions.
  13. Communicates unit rules and policies clearly to patients and family members and seek feedback to assure a clear understanding.
  14. Complies with mandated reporting requirements related to neglect and abuse in all age groups served.
  15. Responds to request for evaluation within one hour or less. Maintains composure during stressful interactions.
  16. Collaborates with employees in department to continually improve services delivery or hospital operations.

As you would expect, as a ED Crisis Clinician you are responsible for Providing Psychological consultation, developing safety plans, and working with patients, families, and other teams to determine if a patient needs a higher level of care.  Each Clinician is responsible for maintaining clinical medical records. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

1.      Must have current valid license as a Registered Nurse, MFT, or LCSW issued by the State.

2.      LPS certification preferred.

3.      Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.

4.      Three (3) years experience in an Inpatient Psychiatric unit preferred.

5.      DMH certification required for 5150 detentions.
