Assists the Pharmacist, under his or her supervision, in the daily operation of the Pharmacy.
● For inpatient areas, the Advanced Pharmacy Technician has completed all required competencies and has at least 2 years of experience in the respective area of pharmacy. The Advanced Pharmacy Technician (IV) is trained in intravenous and/or hazardous drug compounding and is regularly staffed as an IV admixture and/or hazardous drug admixture pharmacy technician. The Advanced Pharmacy Technician (operations) is trained in inventory management, ADC replenishment and maintenance and is regularly staffed in an operations role and can assist with technician training.
● For retail areas, the Advanced Pharmacy Technician performs more complex duties, supporting pharmacists with medication preparation and distribution. In addition to basic technician responsibilities, this role involves quality assurance (QA) and auditing tasks. The Advanced Pharmacy Technician also plays a key role in overseeing training for entry-level technicians.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Required qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. State Pharmacy Technician License/Registration required.
3. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential required (this requirement may be waived for current pharmacy students enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy).
4. At least 2 years of pharmacy technician experience in the current practice area (inpatient or retail) required.
5. Additional certifications in relevant areas of practice through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred (i.e., CSPT, Nonsterile Compounding, Supply Chain, Immunizations, and Inventory Management, etc.)
Preferred qualifications:
1. Graduate of ASHP-accredited or equivalent pharmacy technician training program preferred.
2. 340B program experience preferred (if at a 340B facility)
