Responsibilities

As a Unit Secretary in the Emergency Room, you will play a crucial role in supporting the medical team and ensuring efficient operations. Your responsibilities will involve a combination of administrative tasks, communication, and coordination to facilitate smooth patient care.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Patient Interaction:

  • Assist with patient check-in and discharge procedures, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed accurately.
  • Answer phones promptly and relay messages efficiently to team members.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain, organize, and update patient records with confidentiality and precision.
  • Manage clerical duties such as filing, scanning, and data entry.

Coordination:

  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and support staff to ensure patient needs are met.

Technology

  • Enter medical information and update electronic health records (EHR) efficiently.

Compliance and Safety

  • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and regulations including HIPAA standards.

The position is in a dynamic and high-pressure emergency room setting, requiring the ability to remain calm and efficient during emergencies.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent or relevant experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014.

2. Medical terminology preferred.

3. Current BLS certificate within 6 months of hire and maintain current.

4. Experience using computers for word processing, database management preferred.
