Overview

We are seeking a Pharmacy Supervisor, internally referred to as our Supervising Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager. The Pharmacy Supervisor will oversee daily pharmacy operations, including staff supervision, medication distribution, and regulatory compliance. They ensure safe and effective pharmaceutical care while supporting clinical services, quality assurance, and inventory management.

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center - Kansas City, MO

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Operational Management: supervise pharmacy staff (pharmacists, technicians, aides), manage work schedules, ensure adequate staffing and coordinate medication distribution and inventory systems

  • Regulatory Compliance: ensure the pharmacy adheres to all federal, state, and hospital regulations (e.g., DEA, Joint Commission standards); monitor controlled substances and documentation practices

  • Quality Assurance: implement and monitor quality control procedures, participate in audits and ensure medication safety protocols are followed (e.g., sterile compounding practices)

  • Clinical Oversight: support clinical pharmacy services (e.g., medication therapy management, patient counseling), collaborate with physicians and nursing staff on medication-related issues

  • Budgeting and Purchasing: assist with formulary management, cost-containment strategies, manage pharmaceutical inventory and supply procurement

  • Training and Development: Onboard new staff, coordinate ongoing professional development and conduct performance evaluations

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:  

  • Current state Registered Pharmacist license
  • B.S. Degree in Pharmacy
  • 5 years of previous hospital pharmacy experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with hospital pharmacy computer systems, spreadsheets, word processing programs, and other databases 

Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus: 

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy or related field
  • Doctor of Pharmacy
