Overview

The Medical-Surgical Renal Registered Nurse (RN) specializes in delivering expert care to patients in the medical-surgical unit who are affected by renal conditions. This role blends the broad, fast-paced responsibilities of a med-surg nurse with the specialized knowledge required to care for patients with renal impairments. The Med-Surg Renal RN is responsible for managing patient care from admission through discharge, focusing on both acute and chronic kidney issues. This Registered Nurse is adept at performing detailed assessments, crafting individualized care plans, and executing complex interventions. Strong knowledge of dialysis, fluid and electrolyte imbalances, and pharmacological treatments related to renal health is crucial.

 

This role of Med-Surg Renal RN requires a compassionate nursing professional capable of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes and experience. Proficiency in utilizing electronic health records and outstanding communication skills is essential for educating patients and families about renal health and treatment plans. The Med-Surg Renal RN is dedicated to upholding hospital protocols and staying abreast of the latest research and developments in renal and medical-surgical fields.

 

Bonus Options: up to $20,000 (Paid out as stipends every 90 days)           

Employment Type: Full Time

Shifts Available: Nights (17% to 22% differential in pay)

Hours: 7:00pm to 7:00am

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center - Kansas City, MO

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Conduct thorough initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health.
  • Monitor vital signs, intake/output, and other clinical indicators to detect changes in patient conditions.
  • Monitor vital signs, lab results, and symptom progression closely. Safely administer prescribed medications (oral, IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular) and monitor for adverse effects or allergic reactions.
  • Function as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure the patient's needs are met.
  • Provide patient education on their condition, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments to support recovery and prevent readmission.
  • Communicate effectively with doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and social workers to develop and adjust care plans.

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have: 

  • Current and valid state RN License
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current

Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus:

  • Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Previous Acute Care hospital experience
  • Ventilator management experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
