The Regional Vice President of Communications and External Affairs is a corporate and regional executive leader responsible for the planning, development and execution of the organization's strategic communications and public relations to advance the mission and organizational goals through effective messaging, media relations, crisis communication, employee engagement, advocacy, and stakeholder outreach. This leadership position is one of the key representatives of Prime Healthcare with internal and external stakeholders. Works closely with Government Relations and is responsible for the development and deployment of all corporate communications, including investor related communications and presentations, media relations and PR/ community engagement activities for Prime Healthcare; including internal and external communications, executive communications, PR and media relations, crisis communications, corporate advocacy, Prime Healthcare Foundation activities, online and social media strategy. This leader works with Corporate and Regional leadership and hospital leadership to advance the company’s mission and strategic goals. Working closely with Prime Executive Leadership, this position serves as the primary spokesperson for Prime Healthcare in the Region.
Required qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
2. Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare communications or public affairs, with experience in large, complex health systems preferred.
3. A successful track record of effectively communicating with senior level executives, board members, physician leaders, elected officials, and key community stakeholders.
4. Experience and knowledge in effectively leading and executing corporate and regional-level communications, executive communications, crisis communications, media relations and public relations, as well as labor related communications.
5. Strong understanding of healthcare operations, regulatory environment, and public policy issues affecting hospitals and health systems.
6. Experience and knowledge in government relations and working with elected officials and key stakeholders.
7. Highly developed organizational, communication, planning and leadership skills; diplomatic with the ability to build positive relationships across the health system.
8. Excellent writing skills; creativity a plus
9. Excellent coaching and mentoring skills to ensure an effective Corporate and hospital communications team.
Preferred qualifications:
1 Experience leading regional or multi-site communications in a matrixed healthcare system.
2 Background in managing service line transitions, hospital consolidations, labor relations, or high-profile legal/regulatory cases.
3 Deep understanding of health equity, community health partnerships, and stakeholder engagement.
4 Experience with investor relations
5 Connections, or experience working with, national news media in key markets (LA, NYC, Midwest)
6 Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Marketing, Journalism.
Prime Healthcare offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that provides employees the flexibility to tailor benefits according to their individual needs. Our Total Rewards package includes, but is not limited to, paid time off, a 401K retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and many more voluntary benefit options. Benefits may vary based on employment status, i.e. full-time, part-time, per diem or temporary. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $165,000 to $190,000 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
