Lake Huron Medical Center is a 139-bed community hospital that provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient health care services to residents of St. Clair and Sanilac counties including emergency services, primary stroke center, cancer care, surgical services, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, pulmonary rehabilitation, and specialized diabetes programs.

Responsibilities

Analytical cytologic evaluation and determination of an initial differential diagnosis of various cellular preparations from all sites of the body and collected by various means including fine needle-aspiration; preparation of cytologic specimens for microscopic evaluation utilizing all the various techniques; assists physician in obtaining cell samples; other duties assigned. Special projects or other assignments may be given with expectations to be completed in a specified timeframe involved in performance improvement program for Pathology and Lab. Produce workload summary and charge pursuant to regulatory requirements. Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  1. ASCP Cytotechnologist certification, or equivalent, required within 1 year of employment.
  2. One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
  3. Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
  4. Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
  5. Skill and knowledge in hazardous chemical waste management.
