Overview

We are seeking an Insurance Verifier/Financial Counselor, internally referred to as Patient Access Specialist or Pre-Services Financial Counselor.  The Insurance Verifier/Financial Counselor is responsible for ensuring accurate insurance verification and providing patients with clear, compassionate financial guidance prior to or during their care at St. Mary’s Surgery Center.   

 

Shift’s Available:  Days

Employment Type: Full Time 

Hours: 8-hour shift: 7a - 3:30p

Location: St. Mary’s Surgery Center, Blue Springs, MO

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Verifies and secures accurate patient demographic and insurance information, updating patient account information, as needed for scheduled inpatient and outpatient services
  • Obtain pre-authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications as required by insurance payers
  • Responsible for determining patient liability based on benefits and advises patient of their liability prior to scheduled elective procedures notifies patient(s) of financial responsibility
  • Provide estimates of patient out-of-pocket costs using available tools and data
  • Offer payment plan options and assist with financial assistance applications or charity care when applicable
  • Work collaboratively with Case Management, registration, clinical, and billing teams to ensure complete and accurate patient information in securing Medicaid/Medical treatment authorizations, as needed
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other regulatory guidelines
  • Screens and refers patients for possible linkage to state, county or other government assistance programs as well as, charity or discounts as per the facility Charity and Discount policies

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

 

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:  

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge of standard insurance companies and verification requirements
  • Well versed in authorization processes for all payers
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize needs to meet required timelines
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Customer Services experience

 

Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus: 

  • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools
  • Proficiency in Excel
