Overview

Sign-On Bonus: up to $20,000 (paid out as stipends every 90 days)

Hours:  12hr Shift 7:00am-7:00pm

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO

 

We are seeking an Orthopedics Registered Nurse, also referred to as an Orthopedic Unit RN, Orthopedic Staff Nurse or Ortho RN. An Ortho RN is a registered nurse who specializes in the care of patients with musculoskeletal disorders they also work on the medical-surgical floor. They work with patients who have experienced injuries, undergone orthopedic surgery, or have long-term musculoskeletal conditions. Their duties include patient assessment, pain management, wound care, and education about the recovery process.

Responsibilities

** If you have experience in Orthopedics, Medical Surgical, Telemetry or other critical care areas of nursing, you are encouraged to apply! 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Perform comprehensive initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health 
  • Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, and other clinical indicators to promptly identify changes in patient condition 
  • Provide specialized care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions, including fractures, joint replacements, and orthopedic surgeries, ensuring proper pain management, mobility support, and wound care  
  • Administer prescribed medications via oral, IV, subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes while closely monitoring for adverse effects or allergic reactions 
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure holistic, patient-centered care 
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, post-operative recovery, physical therapy routines, lifestyle modifications, and the use of assistive devices to support healing, prevent complications, and reduce the risk of readmission 
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, specialists, physical therapists, and social workers to develop, implement, and revise individualized care plans 

 

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:  

  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
  • Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Previous Acute Care hospital experience preferred.
  • Ventilator Management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
