Overview

We are seeking a Hemodialysis Registered Nurse, also referred to as a Dialysis RN, Renal RN, or Hemodialysis RNThe Hemodialysis RN in our renal dialysis department provides specialized care to patients with acute or chronic kidney failure by initiating, monitoring, and managing dialysis treatments, often in critical care settings. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, manage vascular access, administer medications, and ensure patient safety through strict infection control and accurate documentation. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Provide patient care before, during, and after dialysis by assessing vital signs, managing vascular access, operating dialysis machines, and responding to complications 
  • Deliver urgent dialysis treatments to critically ill patients in ICU, ER, or step-down units for conditions like hyperkalemia, fluid overload, or acute kidney injury 
  • Administer medications such as heparin and erythropoietin during dialysis and document treatment details, machine settings, and patient responses in the EMR 
  • Collaborate with nephrologists, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, and social workers to coordinate care and plan discharges or outpatient transitions 
  • Educate patients and families about the dialysis process, dietary and fluid restrictions, access care, and infection control while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance 

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  1. Current and valid Texas RN License.
  2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate required upon hire and maintain current.
  3. ACLS certificate within 1 year and maintain current.
  4. One year as a staff RN in acute care hemodialysis unit preferred.
  5. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
