Employment Type: Full-time

Shifts Available: Monday through Friday

Location: South Kansas City Surgery Center—Overland Park, KS 

 

A Surgical Scheduler is responsible for organizing and managing the scheduling of surgical procedures within a healthcare facility. They work closely with surgeons, patients, and medical staff to coordinate surgery dates, ensuring that operating rooms, surgical teams, and necessary equipment are available. They verify patient information, check insurance coverage, and communicate preoperative instructions to patients. Additionally, they maintain and update electronic medical records, handle scheduling conflicts, and ensure compliance with medical protocols. The role requires excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of surgical services.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Coordinate and schedule surgeries, ensuring availability of operating rooms, surgical teams, and necessary equipment.
  • Communicate with patients, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to confirm surgery dates, times, and preoperative requirements.
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts or issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Verify patient information and insurance coverage for surgical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate scheduling records and update electronic medical records (EMR) with any changes or cancellations.
  • Monitor surgical case volumes and resources to recommend efficiency improvements.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

1. High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires)

2. Knowledge of multiple insurance authorization requirements

3. 1-2 year previous experience in a hospital environment preferred

4. Knowledge of medical terminology5. Effective written and verbal communication skills

6. Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines

7. Analytical and problem-solving skills

8. Customer Services experience required

9. Strong clerical and computer skills
