he Registered Nurse Preceptor functions as a teacher and mentor in guiding, directing and supervising technical nursing activities of the nurse preceptee. Provides guidance and consultation when needed, regarding effective patient care and scope of practice. Creates formal and informal learning opportunities for peers regarding practice issues, technology and/or current research, identifies and intervenes when staff weaknesses are identified. The Registered Nurse Preceptor is responsible for the oversight of the preceptee in the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The Registered Nurse is directly responsible for the care given to their assigned patients. They communicate with the physician, nurse director, coworkers about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and abnormal results and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality. Works collaboratively with patients, patients’ family, significant other(s) and hospital staff to achieve goals and outcomes.
