Human Resource Manager

 

St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Manager to lead HR operations through an exciting period of growth and transition following a recent acquisition. This role oversees HR functions for 750+ employees across St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical group, ensuring all systems, processes, and policies are aligned, compliant, and driving organizational success.

 

As a trusted partner to local leadership, the HR Manager will deliver actionable workforce insights—helping to optimize staffing, improve operational efficiency, and support strategic decision-making. This hands-on leader will manage full-cycle HR operations including onboarding, employee relations, leadership development and offboarding, ensuring a seamless employee experience at every stage.

 

Key priorities include:

  • Driving organizational alignment during the transition period
  • Understanding the labor metrics so that we can right size staff at the facility.  This will include working closing with hiring leaders and Talent Acquisition to get positions filled and expediting the onboarding process.
  • Partnering with leadership to implement effective leadership development and engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities

 

Founded in 1897, St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL, is an 182-bed facility that has been a cornerstone of specialty and emergency care, available 24/7. We specialize in advanced surgical treatments for critical injuries and illnesses, ensuring that our care teams are attentive to your unique health needs.

 

St. Mary’s Hospital offers a range of specialty services, including heart care, cancer treatment, stroke care, and orthopedics. With an array of minimally invasive procedures utilizing the latest robotic-assisted technology, along with comprehensive imaging and lab services, all services are conveniently located on one campus. We are accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology (ACC), designated as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (TJC), and hold several orthopedic accreditations.

 

Formulate and manages programs relative to selection, training, promotion, and other employer/employee relationships.  Interviews job applicants; develops personnel record forms; adjust disputes and grievances and recommends necessary disciplinary actions; analyzes, classifies and evaluates jobs.  Administers employee welfare and recreation services, and serves as an adviser to executive staff in personnel implications of policies, programs, and proposed organization changes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

1.        Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of relevant experience required.

2.        Master’s Degree preferred

3.        At least 2 Years of Healthcare Experience required

4.        Must be familiar with the hospital organization; functions of various departments; pay practices and techniques, review techniques; training methods.

5.        Familiar with the labor market for recruitment and understanding of accreditation standards. 

6.        Knowledge of state and federal wage and hour laws required.

 

Pay Transparency

St. Mary's Hospital - Kankakee offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that provides employees the flexibility to tailor benefits according to their individual needs. Our Total Rewards package includes, but is not limited to, paid time off, a 401K retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and many more voluntary benefit options. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $88,192 to $123,136 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
