The CDS Supervisor is responsible for the implementation and improvement of the clinical documentation improvement program at the facility and supervises clinical documentation specialists (CDS). He/She ensures CDS perform their designated tasks synergistically with other concerned departments and personnel. The CDS Supervisor will work closely with the Director of CDI/Data Quality, CDS Manager, Supervisor of Health Information Department, and Director/ Supervisor of Case Management to be instrumental in supplementing assistance to these departmental functions pertaining to clinical documentation. The CDS Supervisor will work closely with the medical staff to formulate strategies to improve the quality of clinical documentation. He/She will perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Required qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in medicine/ surgery or license as a physician assistant or registered nurse.
2. A minimum of two years’ experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist.
3. Extensive knowledge of nursing care, clinical measurement tools, and clinical outcomes; ability to establish a cooperative working relationship with diverse groups and individuals, the medical staff, and other healthcare disciplines; program and database development
4. Certification as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or acquiring 5. CCS certification within 6 months of assuming the position
6. Possess the ability to work with minimum supervision, the ability to function in a stressful environment, the ability to encourage and assist with team building, excellent writing and verbal skills, and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, both patient and employee.
Excellent critical thinking skills.
7.Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment.
8.Working knowledge of the Medicare reimbursement system and coding structures
Preferred qualifications:
1. Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria.
2. Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment.
