Responsibilities

Inpatient Coder Auditor Manager is responsible for Coding Services at facility and supervises Coder Auditor Trainees, Coder Auditors and Coder Auditor Supervisors. Ensures Coder Auditors perform their designated tasks synergistically with other concerned departments and personnel. The Inpatient Coder Auditor Manager works closely with Vice President/Directors/Managers and Supervisors/ of Data Quality, Health Information Department and Director/Supervisor of Case Management to be instrumental in supplementing assistance to these departmental functions pertaining to Coding. Inpatient Coder Auditor Manager will review and analyze documentation present in the medical record for both inpatient and Inpatient visits to determine diagnoses and procedures as described by the physicians of record. Utilizing the International Classifications of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) in accordance with regulatory agencies and hospital specific guidelines. The Inpatient Coder Auditor Manager translates the documented diagnosis and procedural information into coded data. Determination of code assignment is based on the official American Health Association (AHA) guidelines in addition to hospital specific and regulatory guidelines. The Inpatient Coder Auditor Manager reviews entered coded data and other abstracted data from the medical record into PHMI's electronic information system, facilitating Health Information Services department's indexing responsibility for internal use (such as to support medical care evaluation studies), and mandated reporting requirements. Holding a senior coding position, assumes primary responsibility for DRG optimization, primary role in assisting medical staff members with improving quality of documentation, and serves as a mentor to the Coders. Inpatient Coder Auditor Manager participates in chart review projects as assigned and adheres to the Prime Coding Policies. Other responsibilities include as designated by the given supervisor(s).

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  1. Medical Graduate, PA or Nursing Graduate required.
  2. CCS is required.
  3. 1+ year of clinical experience in acute care setting preferred.
  4. Please note that in order to be promoted to Coder Auditor I position; the Employee must meet certain performance standards as defined by the Hospital/ Department.
  5. Minimum of two years? experience with ICD-9 and CPT coding in an acute care setting preferred.
  6. Basic computer experience required.
  7. Use of an encoder software product for code assignment in an acute care setting required.
  8. Computer data entry with 10-key preferred, with accurate typing speed of 35 wpm preferred.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent critical thinking skills.

Our Total Rewards package includes, but is not limited to, paid time off, a 401K retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and many more voluntary benefit options.  Benefits may vary based on employment status, i.e. full-time, part-time, per diem or temporary.  A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $79,040.00 to $124,883.20 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
