Employment Type: Full Time

Shifts Available: Days

Hours: 8-hour shifts – 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

Schedule:  Monday through Friday (one Weekend a month)

Location: Saint John Hospital—Leavenworth, KS

The Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to inpatients by ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use. This pharmacist's role involves collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize therapeutic outcomes, prevent medication errors, and support informed clinical decision-making. The Hospital Pharmacist also plays a key role in sterile compounding, medication reconciliation, and compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but are not limited to):

  • Clinical Medication Review & Verification: Evaluate, verify, and optimize inpatient medication orders for safety, accuracy, and clinical appropriateness.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Rounding: Participate: in patient care rounds and partner with physicians, nurses, and care teams to support evidence-based medication therapy decisions.
  • Medication Preparation & Distribution Oversight: Ensure accurate dispensing and oversee sterile and non-sterile compounding processes in compliance with USP 797/800 standards.
  • Medication Reconciliation & Transitions of Care: Perform medication reconciliation during admission, transfer, and discharge to prevent errors and support continuity of care.
  • Patient & Staff Education: Provide medication education to patients when needed and serve as a drug-information resource for clinicians and hospital staff.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance: Support medication safety initiatives, report adverse drug events, maintain regulatory compliance, and uphold hospital policies/protocols.
  • Inventory & Operational Support: Manage medication inventory, emergency supply readiness, and support efficient pharmacy operations.
  • Clinical Program Participation: Contribute to antimicrobial stewardship, pain management, or other hospital clinical initiatives as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have: 

  • Current state: Registered Pharmacist License.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy operations is preferred.
  • A B.S. degree in Pharmacy is required; a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS certification preferred
