Responsibilities

In accordance with California Business and Professions Code §1261, the Laboratory Director provides administrative, financial and operational leadership for the laboratory, functioning as the primary leader responsible for day-to-day laboratory operations. Responsibilities include oversight of laboratory workflow, staffing and personnel management, budgeting, equipment management, quality improvement initiatives, regulatory readiness (CLIA, CAP, TJC, ACHC and other applicable agencies), vendor coordination, and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.

 

• Individuals with a bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science may function as Testing Personnel for moderate (42 CFR § 493.1425) and high complexity testing (42 CFR § 493.1495) and as a General Supervisor for high complexity testing (42 CFR § 493.1463). The individual may also qualify to function as a Technical Supervisor for high complexity testing (42 CFR § 493.1451), provided CLIA education, training, and experience requirements are met. Individuals with a bachelor’s degree may qualify to serve as Laboratory Director for moderate complexity testing (42 CFR § 493.1407) but do not qualify to serve as Laboratory Director for high complexity testing.


This individual is responsible for: 1) administrative, financial and operational oversight of laboratory services, including personnel management, staffing and scheduling, quality assurance, regulatory readiness (CLIA, CAP, TJC, ACHC and other applicable agencies), budgeting, equipment management, vendor coordination, and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures 2) collaborates with hospital leadership and laboratory staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality laboratory operations that support patient care and organizational goals 3) works in collaboration with the Laboratory Medical Director and Technical Supervisors to ensure laboratory services meet clinical and regulatory standards 4) oversee operational aspects of test implementation, validation coordination, quality monitoring, and regulatory compliance 5) collaborates with hospital executive leadership and external department leaders to ensure effective coordination of laboratory services that support patient care, operational efficiency, and hospital-wide clinical initiatives.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

  1. ASCP certification, or equivalent preferred
  2. Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution (42 CFR § 493.1449) required.
  3. Possession of a valid California CLS (Generalist) or CLS (Limited) License required.  CLS Trainee license is not acceptable.
  4. Minimum 5 years supervisory clinical laboratory experience required.
  5. LEAN Six Sigma certification preferred
  6. Master’s Degree preferred.

Our Total Rewards package includes, but is not limited to, paid time off, a 401K retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and many more voluntary benefit options.  Benefits may vary based on employment status, i.e. full-time, part-time, per diem or temporary.  A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $108,700.80 to $178,817.60 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
