Position Overview

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Core Faculty Physician for the Family Medicine Residency Program in Lewiston, Maine.

 

The Core Faculty Physician will provide comprehensive clinical care to patients while actively participating in resident education, mentorship, curriculum development, and program administration in accordance with ACGME standards. This position blends direct patient care with academic leadership and faculty responsibilities.

 

Core Faculty Responsibilities (ACGME-Aligned)

  • Provide direct supervision of Family Medicine residents in clinical settings
  • Teach and model evidence-based geriatric and long-term care medicine
  • Participate in didactic teaching, case conferences, and curriculum development
  • Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor to residents
  • Participate in resident evaluation, milestone assessments, and Clinical Competency Committee activities
  • Engage in scholarly activity, research, or quality improvement projects
  • Participate in program evaluation and continuous accreditation compliance
  • Attend faculty meetings and contribute to residency leadership initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical care to geriatric and long-term care patients
  • Diagnose and manage acute illnesses, chronic diseases, and geriatric syndromes
  • Perform routine and comprehensive resident assessments
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions consistent with evidence-based guidelines
  • Provide preventive care including immunizations, screenings, and health maintenance
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, therapy, and social services
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine (required)
  • Unrestricted or eligible for unrestricted Maine medical license
  • Minimum of 2–3 years clinical experience preferred
  • Experience in teaching or supervising residents strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to graduate medical education
