Responsibilities

The Managing Associate General Counsel - Employment (MAGC-E) must have substantial experience as an employment attorney, including at least 7 years of litigation experience with a national or regional defense firm, public sector agency, or insurance carrier, and 5 years of in-house experience with Prime Healthcare Management, Inc. (“PHMI”) or comparable healthcare company. This position provides legal support for PHMI and affiliated companies on a wide range of complex employment, operational, and transactional issues nationally.  The MAGC-E, with the Chief Employment Counsel, will be responsible for the management and mentorship of employment counsel and support staff on Prime’s Legal Team, and for managing Third-Party Claims Administrators. The MAGC-E will be expected to independently manage major, complex projects for the Employment legal team. The MAGC-E will be responsible for providing strategic advice and counsel on complex transactional, operational, and employment issues, preparing employment policies and agreements, conducting employment audits, conducting employment training, and managing a high volume of complex employment litigation. The MAGC-E will work closely with Human Resources and Leadership at the corporate and Facility level and must be able to identify business needs or goals and partner with Leadership to address risk while also meeting business needs and goals. The MAGC-E must be experienced with a wide range of employment claims, including discrimination, accommodation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour class and collective claims. This position will be located at an assigned Facility or the Corporate offices in Ontario, California. This position requires local and interstate travel when necessary or as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Required qualifications:

  • J.D. from ABA Accredited Law School
  • Member in Good Standing of State Bar of California or another state
  • At least ten (10) years of experience as an employment attorney in a law firm, public sector, insurance carrier, and/or in-house position
  • At least five (5) years of in-house experience with PHMI or comparable healthcare company

 

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience providing advice and counsel to all levels of Human Resources and Corporate Management regarding employment law issues and compliance 
  • Experience successfully managing a large volume of cases
  • First Chair experience at trial or arbitrations
  • Substantial knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and employment agreements within the healthcare industry
  • Ability to independently oversee complex legal matters with superior level of analytical skill including ability to identify and effectively address both legal and business issues
  • Superior time management and priority management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively to legal and non-legal audiences
  • Significant experience supervising junior attorneys and legal staff
  • Significant experience managing and supervising outside counsel and TPAs
  • Ability to combine legal training and subject matter expertise with sound understanding of client’s business to make valued practical contributions
