Overview

PERFORMS DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGIC PROCEDURES ON INPATIENTS AND OUTPATIENTS ACCORDING TO PUBLISHED DEPARTMENTAL PROTOCOLS

Responsibilities

PERFORMS DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGIC PROCEDURES ON INPATIENTS AND OUTPATIENTS ACCORDING TO PUBLISHED DEPARTMENTAL PROTOCOLS

Reviews each requisition prior to the examination to ensure all pertinent information is available and that order is correct and complete.

Obtains and records on patient requisition, films, or RCIS all pertinent clinical information from patient.

Selects appropriate type and number of film to provide diagnostic information using department protocols as a guide.

Prepares and positions patient for each required view.

Performs radiologic examination with a high standard of accuracy in positioning.

Select appropriate technical factor to ensure good quality radiograph.

Practice universal precautions and aseptic technique in order to prevent cross contamination.

Ensures all radiograph are properly marked and patient identification is accurate.

PROCESSES IMAGES USING AUTOMATIC FILM PROCESSING OR DIGITAL SYSTEM

Ensures proper handling of all exposed and unexposed film in order to avoid artifacts.

Efficiently processes film and reloads all cassettes

Report any and all equipment and film artifacts to appropriate personnel.

ANALYZES EACH PROCESSED RADIOGRAPH

Review each radiograph for:

-          Proper technical factors

-          Proper positioning

-          Proper markers, date stickers, and appropriate labels

-          Correct patient  identification

 -      Presence of any factors that may deter from its diagnostic value.

RECORDS DATA RELATIVE TO PROCEDURES

Completes required data with RIS system

MAINTAINS A RESPONSIVE AND RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH PATIENTS , RECORDS DATA RELATIVE TO PROCEDURES

Verifies identification of patient before beginning exam by two patient identifiers.

Assesses all patients prior, during and after the radiographic examination. 

Responds to all patients prior, during and after the radiographic examination.

Explains all procedures in a clear concise manner.

Observes patient support systems (I.V., O2) and observes patient condition and notifies appropriate professional as necessary.
