JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the patient Sitter maintains constant visual observation of assigned patient. Assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. Communicates observations of the patient’s activity and behavior on a regular basis to the assigned nurse. Communicates in a professional manner and demonstrates respect for patient, families/significant other and other health care members. Offers support to peers and staff.
Reports all unusual incidents to the appropriate person. Reports significant changes in patient’s condition to Charge Nurse/Unit Supervisor.
In compliance with information contained within the Infection Control Manual (i.e. OSHA blood borne pathogen standards, CDC Guidelines) and demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment (i.e., gloves, masks, goggles) and hand washing techniques
Avoids and prevents injury to self by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit / facility.
Maintains Confidentiality of all patient information at all times.
Assists other healthcare workers and peers where appropriate.
Provides clear communication in a professional manner.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
3. Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing.
4. BLS (AHA) certification required at time of hire and remain current.
