A Nurse Extern may only practice under supervision of a Professional Nurse. The Nurse Extern is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Nurse Extern can assist with patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care within the Medical/Surgical Unit. The Nurse Extern is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients. The nurse Extern can respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment. The Nurse Extern must take the NCLEX-RN within three months of graduation.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Nursing Student who has graduated, waiting to take the NCLEX (within 3 months)
2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. Current ACLS (AHA) certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current
