The OB Technician performs a variety of patient care and clerical duties to assist and support the organization and function of the Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum units. Works cooperatively with and under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Provides direct care to patients of various ages (neonate, adolescent, adult). Interacts with physicians, patients, families/significant others, hospital staff and community agencies in providing basic care. Responsible for the preparation of sterile supplies and instruments for each assigned procedure, maintaining sterile field during case and providing surgeon with sterile supplies and instruments during assigned procedures. Participates in Obstetrical/ Gynecological surgical cases including, but not limited to, cesarean sections, post-partum D&C’s, post-partum tubal ligations, emergency cesarean-hysterectomy, extensive vaginal laceration repairs and cerclages. Responsible for maintaining supplies in ORs and sub sterile room, resetting OR after surgical case is finished, stocking of patient rooms, assisting with vaginal deliveries as needed, stocking blanket warmers, and for maintaining par level of case carts on unit. Responsible for case carts, i.e. setting up for delivery, ensuring case cart is stocked with correct supplies and par levels, breaking down after delivery and taking to sterile processing for cleaning.
