In collaboration with the manager/director of the department is responsible for assisting in the coordination, integration, and implementation of the organization wide performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with company policies and accreditation standards while maintaining CDC, OSHA, and other federal, state or local regulatory agencies standards or directives. Activities include but are not limited to chart reviews, data abstraction for CMS, NHSN, and other outcomes studies, and staff education. Develop, and adapt as necessary, information systems to report on key performance indicators to ensure that Supervisor/ Managers/Director can measure and monitor and continuously improve performance. The Infection Control Preventionist Trainee is responsible for surveillance, prevention, and control of infection. Assists with policy and procedure development and implementation while maintaining CDC, OSHA, AOA HFAP/TJC/CMS/local regulatory and other regulatory agency standards, or directives. Acts as a primary education consultant to hospital employees, physicians, patients, volunteers, and visitors in safe Infection Control/Prevention practices. Coordinates all hospital infection control activities with the Infection Control Committee, Medical Staff, and hospital employees. Responds to potential exposures by communicating with patients, physicians, employees, volunteers, and regulatory agencies. ICPT will conduct internal audits, reviewing supporting documentation, and appraise preparedness of the auditors. Required to work closely with colleagues in producing information analysis and data abstractors for retro, concurrent, and real time monitoring.




Education and Work Experience

Required qualifications:

  1. Medical Graduate, PA or Nursing Graduate is required.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in acute care setting.
  3. Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment required.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent critical thinking skills.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective partnering relationships with physicians, nurse staff, coding staff and hospital management staff.
  6. Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Current BLS (AHA) certificate preferred for corporate employees.
  2. At least one (1) year in infection control or employee health experience, preferred.
  3. Completion of formal APIC courses in Infection Control preferred. Successful completion of CIC, IC Fundamental Course if less than one (1) year experience and certification within one year of hire preferred.
