The Pathology Transcriptionist performs a variety of duties related to clerical and pathology specimen processing for the pathology department such as: 1) transcribe gross and/or microscopic dictation utilizing computer and dictation equipment, 2) demonstrate competency in anatomic pathology terminology, 3) identifies errors or inconsistencies in dictation and makes corrections without altering the meaning of the dictation, 4) answer telephones, 5) file and retrieve patient records or specimens for physicians or medical records, 6) assist the pathologist in preparation for tumor board/committee, 7) assist in logging, preparing and labeling of pathology specimens, 8) processes specimens, slides, blocks, requisitions for send-out to reference labs or for consultation, 9) filing and storage of specimens, slides or any other duties as directed by the Pathologist or Laboratory Director, 10) assist in the QA and Performance Improvement activities of the department, 11) other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
Education and Work Experience
1. High school Diploma or Equivalent
2. Knowledge of Anatomic Pathology terminology
3. Ability to transcribe dictated reports at a high level of productivity
4. 1-yr previous experience in pathology transcription preferred
