The Insurance Verifier is responsible for determining patient liability based on benefits and advises patient of their liability prior to scheduled elective procedures notifies patient(s) of financial responsibility; collection arrangement are made prior to services rendered for all elective care. Verifies insurance eligibility, and benefits for emergent and urgent admissions, procedures or other services ensuring communication of patient responsibility to the patient or responsible party. Verifies and secures accurate patient demographic and insurance information, updating patient account information as needed. Assists patients in making arrangements as needed for patient responsibility by time of discharge for emergent or urgent services. Screens and refers patients for possible linkage to state, county or other government assistance programs as well as Charity or Discounts as per the facility Charity and Discount policies. The Insurance Verifier works closely with Case Management in securing Medicaid/Medi-cal treatment authorizations as needed. Maintains effective communication skills, including verbal, written and telephone. Proficient in mathematical skills.
The Staff RN provides direct care in the surgical setting. Communicates with physicians/ Nurse Director / Co – workers, as appropriate about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Staff RN can respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
- Performs and verifies quality controls results, documents corrective action taken to resolve any QC outliers.
- Verifies correct labeling of all specimens prior to testing and notifies laboratory supervisor of all labeling errors. Completes hospital variance report.
- Reviews the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting. Does not report questionable test results, notifies supervisor and if needed, has specimen recollected for all tests.
- Recognizes age specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics
- Reports results accurately in computer with less than 2 errors per year which require a corrected report. No serious errors are permitted.
- Critical values are called to the nursing unit or physician within time limits established by the laboratory and accurately documents read-back for results called.
- Readily identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies supervisor, Director, or Medical Director
- Regularly performs routine and periodic instrument maintenance as recommended by manufacturer or policy.
- Performs basic to moderately complex instrument troubleshooting and calls vendor technical service promptly with more complicated problems.
- Performs testing on Proficiency Testing samples in accordance with laboratory procedure and regulatory requirements.
- Performs thorough investigation and documentation of corrective action taken on proficiency testing outliers.
- When performing data entry, accurately enters specimen information into computer. Medical record number, name, date and time must be verified with requisition. Less than 2 date errors per year. No medical record number or name errors are permitted.
- Completes daily tasks such as stocking supplies, rotating specimens, cleaning counters, and instruments. Dispose of waste in appropriate containers.
- Completes laboratory testing within turn-around time expectations, as established in department policy and procedure.
- Completes all work within scheduled shift, without unapproved overtime.
- Reviews and resolves pending list entries periodically throughout the shift, at the end of the shift, and endorses to the next shift.
- Takes the initiative to assist in other areas of the department when needed, based on technical ability.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures as requested by supervisor/manager
- Assists in performing venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics when needed.
- Actively participates in the training and orientation of new employees.
- Actively participates in the quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives of the department.
- In the absence of the supervisor, may be assigned as Lead Tech, providing supervision for work performed in the section or department, during the shift. This will include, but not limited to, the review of test results reported, organizing work flow, and prioritizing work as needed.
- Assists in scheduling work assignments of staff to maintain consistent and adequate coverage of the department.
- Performs/assists with staff competency assessments in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the CLS III, Lab Manager and Laboratory Director.

Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Registered Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care in the ICU. The Registered Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients. He/She communicates with the physician about changes in the patient's clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and abnormal results and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
The PACU RN is accountable directly to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all patients within the PACU scope of services. The Registered Nurse also coordinates the post-operative care of the patient with the surgeon and anesthesiologist, directs and guides other personnel while maintaining standards of care in the PACU. He/She communicates with the physician about changes in the patient�s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and abnormal results and symptomatology. Works with other departments and co-workers to provide quality patient care across the continuum, efficient patient flow and unit maintenance and organization. Responsible for adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures. Responsible for participation in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services. Acts as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.

The Nurse Assistant in the Med Surg/Telemetry Department is an unlicensed non-certified assistive person who assists with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-critical patients and assists in maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.
