- Interviews patients to obtain information regarding food habits and cultural food preferences. - Coordinates with diet clerks to ensure accuracy of diets served. - Applies the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses, as appropriate, and interprets data, determines patient care requirements and delivers care relative to the patients’ age specific needs. - Reviews information from interdisciplinary screening mechanism to prioritize high risk patients according to policy. - Provides education/nutrition counseling for diet modifications and food-drug interactions to patient, family and caretaker based on need, learning preference and readiness, cultural, ethnic and personal food preferences. - Accurately assesses patient’s nutritional status and determines appropriate nutritional diagnosis based on approved assessment policy. - Assures that assessments are completed in a timely manner. - Establishes nutrition intervention plans that are measurable and appropriate to the assessment. - Provides follow-up (reassessment) to see if recommendations are implemented and effective or suggests changes to the plan of nutritional care. - Documents all interventions, assessments, education and care plans in the medical record according to approved content and format. - Addresses discrepancies in diet orders if not ordered within the guideline of the diet manual. - Contacts physician with any questions or irregularities regarding nutritional care; shows no hesitancy in making contact. - Makes rounds to nursing units to check for any problems, inconsistencies, or patients who are at potential nutritional risk. - Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the clinical area and monitoring of clinical performance indicators for the department. - Performs other duties as assigned or required.

- Assists patients to undress and change into patient gown. - Make patient as comfortable as possible. - Assists patients to the bathroom - Obtains vital signs, weights on all pediatric patients, pulse oximetry and documents information on the patient record. - Places patient on cardiac monitor if necessary. - Places patient on non invasive blood pressure monitor if necessary. - Obtains medical record. - Notifies RN and / or Physician of patient’s condition. - Assists RN with ambulance runs in placement of patients in appropriate bed. - Helps to update family on progress of patient i.e. delays. Arranges patient’s family members to visit at appropriate times. - Performs CPR during codes. - Helps manage assaultive behavior patients and forensic patients. - Applies simple and complex dressings - Performs EKG’s, splinting and transports specimen to the Lab. - Assists RN in transportation of patients admitted to hospital. - Orders and stock special supplies as needed. - Follows EMTALA Regulations. - Assist with the training of new employees. - Ensures that all treatment rooms are stocked with supplies and ready for use. - Attends and maintains mandatory training in safe patient handling, trained in safe lifting techniques, includes but not limited to 1) - Appropriate use of lifting devices and equipment, 2) Five areas of body exposure: vertical, lateral, bariatric repositioning and ambulation 3) Use of lifting devices to handle patients safely. - Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
