Mental Health Worker Inpatient: Under the direction and supervision of the RN, LVN or Charge RN assist the licensed nursing staff in providing and documenting patient care including assistance with activities of daily living. Performs some clerical duties as assigned and provides basic nursing care for the adult and geriatric patients. - Under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), processes specimens on laboratory equipment promptly and accurately. - Notifies CLS when testing is completed and when results are to be reviewed. - Review orders and specimens for accuracy which includes at least 2 forms of patient identification. - Assists the CLS in the performance of quality control procedures. - Verifies correct labeling of all specimens and notifies laboratory supervisor of all labeling errors. Completes hospital variance report. - Accurately enters specimen information into computer. Medical record number, name, date and time must be verified with requisition. Less than 2 date errors per year. No medical record number or name errors are permitted. - Prioritizes specimens according to STAT, Timed, and Routine and processed and placed in the instrument for analysis. - Promptly notifies the CLS when patient results need to be reviewed and released. - Reviews pending list periodically throughout the shift, and at the end of the shift, endorses to the next shift. - Completes daily tasks such as stocking supplies, rotating specimens, cleaning counters, and instruments. Dispose of waste in appropriate containers. - Regularly performs routine and periodic maintenance as recommended by manufacturer or policy under direct supervision of the CLS. - Records refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily, documents corrective action on out of range results. - Actively participates in the orientation of new employees and other employees learning new duties making them feel welcome and comfortable in the facility under direct supervision of the CLS. - Efficiently and accurately performs primary culture inoculations. - Stains slide preparations for reading and interpretation by the CLS. - Performs sub-cultures from liquid media. - If applicable, performs CPT-1 functions and responsibilities identified in CPT-1 job description. - Performs venipuncture and skin puncture on patients of all ages from newborn to geriatric in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. - Ensures positive patient identification, minimum two required patient identifiers, prior to performing patient draw. The PACU Charge Nurse is responsible and accountable to the Department Director for the quality of nursing staff and the delivery of patient care during his/her shift and assists the Director in the daily operation of the respective unit(s)/department. He/she provides direct communication with the Director and/or House Supervisor of unanticipated patient care events and/or risk management activities within patient care unit(s); Utilizes nursing personnel effectively, assisting with required scheduling, staffing and assignments; Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of staff and/or staff education as necessary; Assists with performance evaluations, progressive discipline of staff and other related HR activities as needed; Assesses supplies and equipment availability, ensures their proper use and functionality and assists in the daily maintenance of par levels; Collaborates with other department managers/supervisors to ensure smooth coordination of services to patients; enhanced patient flow within the facility and efficient admission/discharge/transfer processes; Assesses patient care delivery and quality of care/documentation on a consistent basis; directs staff members to make immediate changes in the plan of care, as appropriate to ensure patient safety and adherence to regulatory guidelines, hospital policies, procedures, protocols and/or clinical pathways and notifies Department Director, House Supervisor and/or Medical Staff as appropriate utilizing the chain of command. Interviews patients/families on admission and during rounds to enhance positive patient experiences, provide comprehensive orientation to the patient care unit and increase patient/family awareness on how to access services and/or the charge nurse, if necessary.
