Assists patients through the stages of labor and assists in the preparation for the safe delivery of infant. Accurately attaches patient to electronic fetal monitor, adjusts monitor and notifies RN of any abnormal fetal heart rate patterns. Responds immediately and appropriately to all Code Pink alarms. Maintains accurate collection of specimens with appropriate patient labels before sending to the Lab. Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential needs and available resources of time, equipment, personnel and supplies. Questions the presence of unknown/unauthorized persons in the Perinatal Department and makes notifications as needed. Completes, attaches and double checks maternal/infant identification bands at the time of delivery insuring parental educations regarding the critical importance of bands/security tags per policy.  Checks ID bands at appropriate intervals per policy. Uses two patient identifiers consistently when drawing lab, administering medications and performing procedures. Follows all medication policies including the medication reconciliation policy consistently. Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential needs and available resources of time, equipment, personnel and supplies. Demonstrates understanding of the roles and functions of other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Collaborates with other members of the health team and manages unit issues and/or concerns effectively at the lowest level possible. Ensures Crash Cart, defibrillation function have been checked per protocol and after each code, appropriate items are immediately replaced and indicated by signature on crash cart checklist. Assures that all clinical alarms (i.e., fetal heart rate monitors, vital sign monitors, IV pumps, etc.) are consistently set with the appropriate parameters for the patient and are audible at all times Demonstrates empathy and respect for patients by explaining all procedures, providing privacy and allowing patient’s to express emotional needs. Is in compliance with information contained in the Infection Manual (i.e. OSHA bloodbourne pathogen standards, CDC Guidelines), and demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment (i.e. gloves, gowns, masks, goggles) and hand hygiene techniques. Gives a thorough, detailed efficient change of shift report to ensure consistency in the plan of care. Ensures each patient is provided an orientation to the Birthplace and unit specific information, including the call light system, visitor policies and/or how to access the supervising RN or Charge Nurse Detects changes in the patient’s condition and communicates information to the RN and physician in timely manner Assists with any special tests or procedures performed on the unit within scope of practice. Uses Universal Precautions "time out" on all patients for any bedside invasive procedures in the unit. Avoids and prevents injury to self and patients by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit/facility, i.e. suction and oxygen immediately available when needed. Detects and reports medication errors and adverse drug reactions (ADR) according to hospital policy.  Safely and accurately administers medications and documents properly on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) in a timely manner. Withholds medications and notifies supervising RN or Charge Nurse when patient condition indicates medication may be harmful. Completes documentation of narcotics given to the patient on the MAR and narcotic sheet.

Demonstrate an understanding of the hyperbaric chamber system (monoplace) operating procedures. Thoroughly understand and demonstrate the immediate actions required with regards to all established Hyperbaric Emergency Procedures. Cleans and maintains the equipment according to infection control standards. Is in compliance with information contained in the Infection Manual ( i.e. OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, CDC Guidelines ), and demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment ( i.e. gloves, gowns, masks, goggles ) and handwashing techniques. Maintains legible and accurate record of all aspects of a hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Safety checks and chamber maintenance, as required.  Assists physicians with special tests and procedures in the department. Uses time out on all patients for any bedside procedures. Avoids and prevents injury to self and patients by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit/facility, i.e. suction and oxygen immediately available when needed. Able to carry out relevant diagnostic and clinical procedures such as:  report accurate medical history to nurse or physician; assess for pain and document findings; obtain vital signs; observe for changes in neurological status; collection and removal of patient waste; observe and supervise patient throughout the hyperbaric oxygen treatment; document depth pressures and air breaks; maintains records and reports of unusual occurrences and interrupted hyperbaric sessions to department director. Assist in educating the patient and/or the patient's family of the risks, benefits, indications, and safety procedures specific to hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments.

Plan, coordinate and implement the overall Bariatric and Stroke programs. Plan and manage the care of patients, and family, as applicable.   Serve in accordance with the nursing process to continue follow-up and as a resource. Serve as liaison between hospital, medical staff, clinical departments, bariatric physician’s office, patients and other resources. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in the development, evaluation, and revision of the plan of care as appropriate to meet the patient’s needs and goals. Participates in Regional Advisory Council (RAC) by attending meeting, organizing and facilitating the hospital’s involvement in the RAC. Develop hospital relationships with primary and specialty practice physicians with the goal of increasing referral and redirection opportunities for both inpatient and outpatient services for the hospital. Monitor patient experience and share information with leadership and other departments to identify opportunities to improve, resolve or prevent the recurrence of problems, and increase overall patient satisfaction. Successfully plans and hosts Information Seminars and Support Groups monthly, in support of patient recruitment efforts and program continuing education. Effectively encourages potential patients to complete pre-registration/insurance verification paperwork after Information Seminars/Support Groups, knowledgeably assists with this process, and verifies insurance eligibility. Provides education to patients/families/significant other and staff, incorporating age-specific criteria and assessment of readiness to learn. Supervises staff skills and knowledge verification. Represents the hospital in a professional manner at community events as required.   Performs other duties as assigned or required.
